A statewide partnership of researchers, nonprofits, educators, and community organizations working to reduce plastic pollution through research, education, and advocacy. As part of the Coalition, I participate in the Research Committee and collaborate with the North Carolina General Assembly, helping to communicate the importance of evidence-based environmental policy and plastic waste reduction.
I volunteer with the Scientific Research and Education Network as a member on the Researcher Team. We collaborate with K–12 educators to translate current marine science research into classroom-ready lesson plans aligned with state education standards. Through networking events and curriculum workshops, SciREN strengthens connections between researchers and teachers, helping bring science into classrooms while inspiring the next generation of scientists.
My passion for marine conservation extends to Sea Turtle Camp and the Escambia County Sea Turtle Conservation Program. As a Sea Turtle Camp Scuba Unit Lead, I introduced students to marine biology through immersive, hands-on experiences that foster curiosity, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. As a Sea Turtle Patroller, I monitored nesting beaches, documented nesting activity, protected nests, and supported public education efforts to conserve threatened sea turtle populations.
As a Peace Corps Volunteer, I partnered with local leaders and community members to improve access to clean water through sustainable capacity building. By organizing a borehole maintenance training program, we trained local technicians to repair and maintain community water infrastructure, strengthening long-term water security while emphasizing community-led solutions. This experience continues to shape how I approach conservation, through collaboration, listening, and partnerships with the communities most affected by environmental challenges.
